Ohio Swim Coach Indicted on 95 Child Pornography Counts

July 6, 2009

James Mahan, 57, of Bedford Heights, Ohio, has been indicted on 95 counts of child pornography offenses after he was found trading child sexual abuse images on the Internet, and analysis of his computer showed images of children being sexually assaulted. According to the Plain Dealer in Cleveland, Mahan was the aquatics manager for the Macedonia Recreation Department for three years, and also taught children between the ages of six months and 12 years how to swim.

He was caught in an Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) sweep of traders of child sexual assault images. From June-November 2008 the team seized 4,550 computers, CD’s, videos, flashdrives, and cameras, and 29 adults were indicted and 19 juveniles charged.

Because there is a nearly 1-to-1 correlation between viewing child pornography, and research shows child pornography possessors have 22 victims on average before being caught, we appreciate the work of the Ohio ICAC and taking more dangerous predators off the streets.
