Teacher of the Year Sentenced on Child Pornography Charges
June 18, 2009Joseph E. Macanga, 55, taught sixth-grade social studies and language arts at Lumberton Middle School when he was arrested in April 2008 for using nearly 30 chat rooms to share child pornography, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. He was a soccer coach for girls 11 to 13 and had been named Educator of the Year. He will serve 57 months in federal prison and five years of supervised release after serving his sentence.
