Santa Cruz PD Catches Predator Using Donated Software

Santa Cruz Police Department has wasted no time putting its recently donated Webcase chat software to work in the capture of 55-year-old Steve Hibbitt, who was charged with the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse images.  Hibbitt, who was using a local library computer, was tracked down by investigators who were tipped off about his activities and who used a covert persona to discover his whereabouts.  Their conversations with him were recorded as evidence by the new Webcase software.

Because law enforcement is not receiving the funds it needs on the local, state, and national level, many law enforcement agencies who could be tracking down more predators and taking them off the streets cannot.  They need our help to get the tools they need to do their jobs.  With the support of the Nicholson Family Foundation and Santa Cruz Memorial, Santa Cruz has gotten a good start on cleaning up its city.  Please click here to find and support  a team close to you.
