Protect Act 2024
The Protect Act 2024 supports law enforcement, in part, by extending the time period that technology companies must retain child sexual abuse materials, giving Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force teams up to a year for investigations. This legislation helps investigations that can prevent child sexual abuse, safeguarding our children online.
- Require websites and social media platforms to report violations of federal crimes involving child sex trafficking.
- Increase the fines for websites and social media platforms that knowingly and willfully fail to report child sexual abuse material and online child sexual exploitation.
- Increase the length of time websites and social media platforms are required to preserve evidence for reports they submit to the CyberTipline, giving law enforcement more time to investigate and prosecute.
